A weekend trip

Mom's Breastaurant had 2 events this weekend. Our Chico Chapter was at the 3 day Chico Air Show, and the Home Chapter (that would be me) was in Tahoe for their Lake in the Sky Airshow on Saturday. Mark and the kids came along.

Friday traffic was yucky. We managed to get stuck in commute traffic entering Sacramento, and on the other side of Sac there's some road construction and narrowing of lanes, which, combined with commute traffic, meant we moved only slightly faster than a snail. By the time we arrived at the airport in Tahoe everyone connected to the event had gone home for the day, so I couldn't set the booth up early. Which meant we were going to have to get up pretty early, load the kids in the van, and take them to the airport for me to unload gear and get started with my day while they went back to the motel. Mark had planned for a couple activities in the area with them, so I hung out at the airport and let parents know there was a space provided for them to care for their infants while Mark and the kiddos went to see a glass-walled river and 'Vikingsholm' (which apparently has nothing to do with the Vikings except that the builder liked their style of architecture and furniture and was wealthy enough to collect it and later turn her property into a museum). They had an okay day out, though Mark complained of some difficulties with finding parking, which led to long uphill walks to get to the attractions.

Sayer skated through Friday and Saturday with no homework. I'd brought her workbooks along in case we had time while waiting for service at restaurants or the like. Yeah. That never works. But we did still read Percy before going to bed.

The MB event ended at 3:30, and Mark and the kids were back at the airport at about 4:20. The booth was all packed up and only needed to be loaded up and we were back on the road headed home. Right. Into. The. Setting. Sun. Oh, yay.

Sunday Sayer requested a history lesson, so we read about the Phoenicians and made fake stained glass (waxpaper and crayon shavings). After a trip to the grocery store we're going to make pita breads and purple dye (vegetable based, not from snails! :) )

Sayer is also still flying through the analogies book. She makes maybe one mistake every 3 pages (12 problems). Her current math book is money and fractions. The money portion comes first, and she's doing pretty well with that. She often complains that she can't remember how much one coin or another is worth, but when pressed, she'll come up with the right number. She just has to be pushed to *try* to remember or she'll just complain that she doesn't know and ask me to tell her. The work is reinforcing earlier lessons in carrying over. Hasn't done any more on the borrowing lesson, though. We'll see what the next pages hold for us.

ETC seemed to get easy again. After the last couple books where she was marking syllables and long/short vowels in longer words, she's back to short words again. We're back to the refrain 'this is sooooo easy.' :)
