Today was the first day of a new 'session' at the swim school. Sayer was moved up a level at the end of the last session, and we also switched the time of our swim classes to be 1/2 hour earlier (to give a bit more time for Duncan to rest and recharge before going to gymnastics). The change in time and class level ended up meaning that Sayer got a new teacher, so now each child has a teacher to him- or herself. Hooray for private lessons that don't cost like private lessons! :)
Sayer's biggest sticking point has been her insistence on holding her nose to go under water. She knows how to blow bubbles out her nose, but doesn't like doing it. Today with her new teacher, she learned and learned and learned it. She went back and forth from the stairs to the teacher with her arms outstretched and kicking - no nose-holding! And she did some back floats on her own and lots of other stuff. It was wonderful to watch! :)
Duncan's teacher continued to play games with him to get him past his distaste of getting his face wet. Slow progress there. And he helps Duncan out of the pool and doesn't insist that he *jump* in, both of which Duncan can do. Oh well. He told me that sometimes kids will do for their teachers what they won't do for parents, but the reverse is also sometimes true, so just because Duncan will jump to me doesn't mean he will jump to Allen.
But they're doing well and having fun. :)
