Stymied

I was stymied in my desire to finish up the other couple of books Sayer has been working on. Finishing up ETC 6 was no problem, but the Venn diagrams book ... The last two puzzles require that she know lots of world geography and early modern history. The first one asked her to know 'places to visit,' 'countries,' and 'countries in Europe.' Oops. We haven't studied that yet. Give her states in the US and she could probably name a few and tell you if they were close together or far apart, and she can tell you that Canada sits on the US's 'head' and, and Mexico is under it's toes. Other than that, she knows names of some countries, but not where they are. And the last puzzle wanted her to know which items in the list were in use in the 1800s. Our history studies are lagging, but even if they weren't, we'd only be through Ancient history.

So, that book is done, with the exception of the last two puzzles. Ah well.

We're now done with all the various workbooks we'd been working through. I think, rather than have *no* workbooks for the rest of the year (so that we can focus more on history), we'll start new books, but only work from one of them a day ... maybe Monday for phonics, Tuesday for math, etc.

And speaking of history, we read another lesson from SotW today. Yay! We've been reading through the recommended reading books in the evenings for the last week or so. I tend to request and then check-out several chapters-worth all at once. Sometimes this doesn't work out so well :( But this time, we're plowing our way through them. Since the lessons now are on Greece, Sayer is enjoying re-visiting Greek mythology :) She's less happy that Bluebear has been on hold for the last week or so, while we read through history. I think we'll pick it back up again tonight.
