Hooray for history!

This morning Sayer bargained me down to doing only 3 pages of her math workbook because she *wanted* to start her new phonics book. She finished ETC 4 1/2 yesterday, and generally wants a 1 day break before starting the new book. Today she said she wanted to get started. So, she did 3 pages of her word problems math book, then did 6 pages of ETC 5. Which was a page more than she was 'supposed' to do, so she asked for a penny reward :)

Then, after math and phonics were done, we did history! We'd read the next chapter in SotW on Monday, even though we weren't finished reading the novel about Hatshepsut that we were slogging through at bedtimes. It was a suggested read from the last chapter, about the New Kingdom of Egypt. But Sayer was never very intrigued with it, and was ready to move on. So we read the next chapter about the Israelites leaving Egypt on Monday. We finished the novel about Hatshepsut last night (Sayer fell asleep with 2 or 3 pages left. Yep, she was riveted ...). So, today, when we sat down to do history, she was enthusiastic.

As she colored the pages about Moses parting the Red Sea and the ten plagues, we talked about what we'd read on Monday. The story of Moses being put in a basket in the Nile and found by the Princess and raised as a Prince of Egypt. How later he asked Pharaoh to let the Israelite slaves leave Egypt to worship their god in the desert, and the ten plagues that Egypt suffered before the Pharaoh agreed. Then she did the map page, and then we sat down and read 4 of the story books SotW suggested for the chapter. Miriam and Moses, Exodus, Exodus from Egypt, and Moses: The Long Road to Freedom. By the end of them she was a bit bored. They did all tell the same story, though the details differed, as did the voice of the author. I'd thought maybe to pull out the Children's Bible, but didn't want her to groan at hearing the story again. Maybe in a day or two ...

But yay! We got to history ... and it wasn't all about Egypt! (Well, yeah, it was IN Egypt, but, well, you know what I mean!)
