Trying to get back into the homeschool groove ...

Last week, between returning home from our trip to southern CA for the JPL open house, the Tar Pits, the rocket launch and the beach, and another trip to Chico to spend time with another friend who just lost her mother, and then getting on a plane to fly to Houston to be with Chanda and her critters for Dale's funeral, we did manage to read the next lesson in SotW. It was about Ancient Africa. Today, several days later, Sayer could recall the stories about Anansi the Spider.

Yesterday Sayer did phonics, completing 5 pages of ETC 3. And last night we read from a big book of ancient Chinese legends.

Today she has done another 5 pages of ETC, as well as the map and coloring pages from the SotW lesson on Africa and Anansi the Spider. She also did 3 pages from the Kumon money book, and it's been a longish while since we last looked at that! While we were at The Little Gym for Duncan's Gymnastics class we read two library books with other stories about Anansi, and a third book (which she read to me) about Zomo the trickster rabbit. Tonight we'll read a few more Chinese legends.

We're slowly working back into homeschooling. We freed up our schedule just a bit by dropping swim classes. We were going to miss one last Tuesday because of going to the rocket launch, and as the kids and I will be flying back to Houston next week until the end of the month, we'd miss 4 more classes. So we dropped this session and we'll maybe pick back up in July or August. We'll still get in some pool time - at the pool across the street from Chanda's house. But for now we've got a little more 'home time' to work on lessons. And when we get to Houston we'll get to combine lessons with Chanda's critters' lessons (Sayer and Rayleigh are one book apart in ETC and are probably similarly close in SotW).

So. We're looking for the groove. We'll find it.
