ETC and 'the new math' :)

Sayer decided to do 6 pages of ETC today - she wanted to skip the page that would have been her fifth page (it was one of the ones that calls for the most writing, which she dislikes at any time but is especially tedious with her cast) and did 2 pages to make up for that. She'll have to do the skipped page tomorrow, but she said that was okay. We'll see if it's still okay in the morning ...

Then we introduced some math worksheets that Chanda has been using as 'extra' math with her critters. They were print outs from mindsprinting.com. They used triangles in which the top contained the sum and the bottom was split to contain the two addends. If you go around the triangle in either direction you'd get one addend plus the other equaling the sum at the top. Or start at the top and go in either direction to subtract the first addend from the sum to get the second. The page we printed out was for 6s. 6 + 1 through 6 + 9. Next to the triangles were equations showing the different ways to go around them with some of the numbers as blanks to be filled in.

Sayer grasped the concept when I went over it with her and claimed it was 'easy.' But we didn't have a chance for her to fill in the blanks until I was busy getting dinner ready and she was mostly on her own. Then it was hard. But she did it. :) We'll keep printing these pages out and keep doing them. I didn't bring any math books along with us, and these will keep us working.
