Sometime in the last couple weeks we did the first lesson from SotW and talked about nomads and how they lived and what they ate and how they found or hunted for their food. And we discussed what nomads would have to do and learn to stay and live in one place (ie plant and harvest crops and domesticate animals). Most of the books recommended for additional reading were not available at the library, so we began muddling ahead into the next chapter.
But we have not forgotten the nomads. Oh, no.
Every time someone talks about a group (people or migrating animals or what-have-you) that moves to follow food, Sayer pipes up with 'just like nomads!' Every time she and Duncan get to playing and end up with some sort of tent-structure, she says they're 'being nomads.'
She'll also discuss getting water to crops if you decide to stop and settle somewhere, but apparently being a farmer isn't as much fun as being a nomad. Even if you do get to play with cool 'machines' like the shaduf.

We never got around to making a shaduf last time, maybe we will this time around. I still have started SotW yet--waiting for J to come home.
ReplyDeleteSayer is going to enjoy SotW if she is taking to nomads so well.
