Sayer broke a board in karate today!

Okay, so it was a piece of balsam wood and was only about 3 mm thick. And the teacher holding the wood for her to punch was exerting pressure to insure that it would snap when she hit it ... But still! :)

Sayer was quite pleased with herself. All five of her classmates got to do it as well, and their grins when they were done where HUGE.

The teacher handed them their broken board pieces after their punches, and when they'd all had their turns she wrote their names on them before calling them to the next thing they were to practice. We have Sayer's board at home now. I'd figured to keep it with the ribbons she gets from swim class and other progress report sorts of keepsakes. But she told me that her teacher had said they could do whatever they liked with their board pieces, and she'd decided she wanted to put hers in a fire. Hmmm. Not sure about that. We'll have to discuss it again later.

And when we got home she wanted to do some homework so that she could watch Wallace and Gromit. It's usually homework before computer, but I'm happy to do it before TV, too. :) So I asked her how many pages she thought she should do, and she said 4. Then she ended up doing 5.

She noticed about three lines down from one problem that she'd forgotten to put the 's' on 'shell.' So she asked me what hell was. That was an interesting conversation ... :)
